Altered and added to by the Elizabethans, it has been home to the Elton family since 1709. The house contains many striking Eltonware pots and vases and a wonderful collection of Nailsea glass. Sir Edmund Elton (1846-1920) was a talented potter and his work enjoyed international acclaim, notably from America where it was marketed in New York by Tiffany and Co.
William Makepeace Thackery often stayed at the Court, sketching and writing, and two of his original drawings remain in the house. Alfred, Lord Tennyson also visited the house.
