The centre of the beach is flat sand and shingle at high or low tide. Low tide exposes rocks on either side of the beach with rock pools and fishing. At very low tide it is possible to clamber around the left hand side of the beach to 'Fishing Rock' and 'Blythes Cove' but care must be taken not to be cut off by rising tides. Shops, café and a public house are within a short walk. Hele is adjacent to Hillsborough Nature Reserve.
A free car park and toilets within easy walking distance and access via a slipway (wheelchair access is difficult).
Hele is in North Devon, just over one mile from Illfracombe on the A399 towards Combe Martin (about one hour drive from the M5). The nearest bus station is in Ilfracombe and the nearest railway station is in Barnstaple.
