Thurlestone South Beach, Nr Kingsbridge, Devon

A National Trust beach and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The most prominent feature in the area is the famous Thurlestone Rock, painted by Turner, which is best seen at high tide.

The name comes from the Saxon name Torlestone, meaning pierced rock. South Milton Sands is owned by the National Trust and is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beach comprises coarse sand with rocky outcrops and has plenty of rockpools to explore at low tide.

Directions

On the A381 between West Alvington and Marlborough, turn where signposted to South Milton. Turn left at the Post Office. This road leads to the car park.
