It is backed by high dunes at one end and by steep cliffs at the other. There is a large expanse of mostly tide swept golden sand and the River Gannel enters the sea at the northern edge.
Crantock beach is a very popular destination for the locals, due to its remoteness and relative calm during the peak holiday season.

Access is through Crantock Village, just south of Newquay. The car park rests behind the dunes.Occasional buses run during high season. The nearest train station is Newquay.
