Exotic and tender plants thrive in the mild climate and there is much of interest to be seen throughout the year, with rhododendrons and azaleas being a particular highlight.
Remnants of an earlier age include a medieval stewpond and a 15th-century domed dovecote. Immediately surrounding the house are areas of more formal gardens, including terraces, whilst in springtime the meadow beyond the north-west tower is carpeted with daffodils. Cotehele is a garden to be explored at any time of year.
