Forde Abbey is a treasure in an area known for its outstanding beauty. More than 900 years of history is encapsulated in this former Cistercian monastery & its 30 acres of award winning gardens. In the peaceful solitude of its secluded position it is possible to imagine how it looked to its previous owners: monks going about their work & prayer, parliamentary gentlemen discussing the cavalier threat, Victorian ladies sitting by the fireside and country gentlemen going about their work.
After exploring the house and gardens take a break in the Undercroft Restaurant serving morning coffee, lunches and cream teas using produce from the garden, estate and local suppliers. A visit to the gift shop, plant centre and pottery exhibition will complete a perfect day out.
